Kyle Takes His First Steps

This afternoon Kyle took one step all by himself! An hour later he took two more steps by himself! Jay and I then sat four feet apart and let Kyle walk between us. We are so proud of our little boy! Apparently this new mode of transportation is not fast enough for our little speedster as he still prefers to run while holding our hands!

Kyle's First Thanksgiving

Kyle's first Thanksgiving was great! We went to Bill and Betty's for Thanksgiving dinner. My parents were also there. Kyle didn't know what to think with so many grandparents around! Jay gave him his first bite of turkey and he seemed to enjoy it. He didn't make it to bed until 10pm due to his excitement. We hope after taking it easy the rest of the weekend that he will be back on schedule soon.

Kyle at 8 months

Here are a couple videos of Kyle. One is of him crawling from about 2 weeks ago and the other is him walking using a diaper box for support from yesterday. All he wants to do is walk and will grab our hands, pull himself up and charge ahead. Mostly his goal is to find the dog and take his toys.

Kyle at 7 months

We had Kyle's pictures taken yesterday. He did real well after he warmed up to the photographer. We lifted him up to his feet by his arms and he decided that it was time for a walk. It was tough to get a good shot because he was so focused on moving his feet. At this rate he might skip crawling and move straight to walking.

The Naplet

I have coined a new term: the Naplet.  A naplet is a 10 to 15 minute increment of sleep bookended by crying.  Today Kyle has had one nap and 2 naplets.

Kyle at 5 1/2 months

Here are some more recent pictures of Kyle.  The bottom picture is of him in his baptism outfit.  It was too big at his baptism and here it's just a touch tight.

Kyle at 5 months

Kyle is fairly stable sitting up on his own, and is eating some solid food now. His favorite food so far is applesauce which is nice because we have a great connection for it in Iowa. He's also growing so fast that we are about to retire the baby carrier as his feet are hanging over the edge.

Kyle's 2 month check-up

Kyle had his two month check-up today and is growing. He now weighs 12 lbs 7.5 oz and is 23 inches long! He also got two shots today, but took it like a little trooper. He's been sleeping a lot, but is doing great!

Kyle spent the night with my folks this past Saturday. I think he had a good time. He came home all smiles. I know my folks enjoyed taking care of him for the evening, but I missed him.

Kyle, 8 weeks old yesterday

He stops smiling every time the camera gets up to my eye.  As of yet, this is as close to a smile picture that we can get.  Today he did gave me the biggest smile I've seen but I didn't have the camera ready as he had just peed on me.

One More from the Arboretum

Cristy and I were looking over pictures last night and I found one that I wanted to share.  Dad took literally hundreds of pictures at the Dallas Arboretum, and this was a real nice moment that he caught with Madeleine in mid-skip leading the way.

Happy Easter!

Kyle was invited to Hannah's easter egg hunt.  Hannah did all the work.

Kyle’s first week of daycare

Kyle did great his first week of daycare! The ladies there said he had the best first day of any baby that they can remember. He only cried when he wanted his diaper changed or was hungry. He loves to sit in the bouncy seat and watch the older babies.  He also loves looking at the colorful bulletin board when the caretaker holds him.  They took him outside yesterday because it was finally warm enough and he had a ball. Jay and I aren't adjusting quite as well as Kyle but we'll get used to it.

Cristy swaddling kyle

Cristy has finally become a swaddling master, and to prove it here's a video of Cristy swaddling Kyle.
P.S. The disembodied voice in the background is her sister Laura on the speaker phone.

Kyle had a big weekend!

The first chronological shot is of Kyle getting cleaned up for his big Sunday.  Then there are pictures from his baptism. Joel and Wendy along with Madeleine, Miriam and Amanda were in town, so Monday we all went to the Dallas Arboretum and took some Easter shots.

Short video of Kyle

Here's about half a minute of Kyle right after eating yesterday.

Congratulations to Laura and David on the birth of their new baby boy!

No posts yet on Laura's blog (she needs to recover) but once there is I'll add a link.

Here's a sweet picture from David's Facebook album.

My First Outing Alone with Kyle

Monday, Kyle had to get his PKU test and Jay had to work. So, Kyle and I went to the hospital by ourselves. I was nervous about the trip, but Kyle did great! He did of course cry when they pricked his heel, but he fell asleep on the way to the car. I was feeling pretty good so we even stopped at the grocery store on our way home. Overall, Kyle and I had a fantastic first outing!

Kyle's Two Week Birthday

Today Kyle is two weeks old and is doing great! He has been staying awake longer each day but mostly just in the late mornings and early in the afternoon. We go to his first well baby visit tomorrow.
Jay and I are extremely tired. Jay has been very sweet and taken two of the night feedings for me. I'll ask Jay to post some more pictures soon.

Uncle Jim and Aunt Juli with Kyle

Kyle is Home

We finally made it home. Everything went well at the hospital. Cristy and the baby are doing great and are both sleeping while I make this post. Thanks to everyone for the phone calls, emails, cards and flowers.
So as I promised here are some more pictures. These are of course the proud grandparents and a picture of Cristy holding Kyle as we were waiting to leave the hospital.

Welcome Kyle William Johnson

Cristy gave birth to Kyle William today at 12:05pm. He is 7 lb 3/4 oz, and 19 3/4 inches long. He also has red hair which was a surprise. He and Cristy are exhausted but healthy and doing well. I was in the room with Cristy for the delivery and she came through great!

Cristy might give you a blow-by-blow blog entry at some point (maybe) but let me just say the process went much faster than we expected. We were lucky Dr. Robert showed up when she did because Kyle wasn't going to wait any longer.

More pictures to follow.

Counting Down the Days

Jay and I are “patiently” awaiting the arrival of our little boy. We are getting very anxious as it is less than a week away. I have worked from home this week, mostly due to the fact I can’t sleep and I feel like a ticking time bomb, ready to go off at any point and I don’t want this to happen at work(They don’t either.) We have all the baby stuff that we know we will need and the house is almost ready. I feel like I must clean everything before it is ready. I have been cleaning in small stages, because I have been advised to “take it easy” and “don’t over do it.”

2 Weeks To Go

With Feb 18th fast approaching, I bet many of you are wondering how close Jay and I are to being ready to welcome our little bundle of joy into the world. As far as we know we have everything we need for the baby (diapers, wipes, clothes, a place to sleep, toys, a carseat). Jay has volunteered to go get anything we find we are missing as needed. (Hopefully, I won't have to send him out too many times.) We are both anxious and ready to meet the little guy (me a little more so).

Birth date update

We have a real date set for the birth, Feb 18. So we have to be at the hospital at 5AM and the doctor will be inducing. I'm really hoping that they'll have the machine that goes "PING!" in the room (any Monty Python fans out there?) It's only 2 days early from the actual due date so we're pretty relieved. The countdown can really start now ... and begin ...

A Belated Hello

Sorry that I haven't done a gag since Thanksgiving, the comic strips sadly have been put on hold. Cristy and I have been meaning to update this thing for a while but we've been sort of distracted.

For those of you who don't know Cristy was diagnosed with gestational diabetes which made the holidays pretty tough for her. She met with a great dietician and we have been following a very strict diet. She has to count her carbs and test her glucose levels 4 times a day. What a trooper! The baby will be here some time around Feb 16. Hopefully the doctors won't have to induce, but they've prepared us for it should it need to happen.

So thats about it. We'll try to get back on a schedule to update the blog soon.
